Flea Market Finds

I know I've been over posting a bit on the Halloween stuff so here's something else; some more things I picked up at a flea market recently that are currently sitting on one of my shelves.

Halloween Witch

About 90% done - still needs hair and some small details but the body and the clothing are finished.

Halloween Kitty

There are a couple of things I still want to do with him; he needs a pitchfork and I'm going to make one out of metal wire. The lighting is a bit off with this photo - too bright.

I used recycled material for his body; I found this funky black blouse with an interesting texture and bits and scraps of black lace/fabric.

I also used felt for the details and my sewing machine though parts of him are hand stitched

The pen sketch I had of him before I started

Fall is Here

Its officially my favorite time of year; fall! As such, there are some places in town that want halloween themed art type stuff so I wanted to make three things - an owl, a cat and a witch.

I started with the owl, being its the easiest to make. There are a few materials involved; an old suit that makes up the body, the lining of the suit that makes up the breast of the owl, old buttons and felt and ribbon.

and here's the original concept I had of the owl - a real quick sketch in pen of what i generally wanted it to look like. I'm busy sewing the cat today and possibly will get the body of the witch started.

Tanners Flea Market

Its that wonderful time of year again, here in Reno. Flea markets, antique sells and book sells for the months of September/October/November. Here are a few things I picked up yesterday. I passed by a stall that had a shoe box full of old keys. Funny, I never thought about the allure of antique keys before. It reminds me of childhood stories where the kid would find an old key in the dirt and it would open up new worlds. Wouldn't it be fun if one of these old rusty keys opened up something spectacular? The old tin is full of needles of all kinds (its safe to say I won't be needing to buy needles any time soon)

Most Recent Plushies

Two more to add to the collection. Both are felt and the turtle has decorative elements of sequins and beads. Hand stitched and machine sewed.

Treasures from afar

On a recent trip to San Diego I happened to stop by a small historical library downtown La Jolla. And inside found this!

One fantastic and unique Book Art idea. I wonder how much money it makes?

So I begged/borrowed/found two dollars in quarters and bought two.

I really love interesting and creative things like this. I think every city should have a Book for a Buck.

One More

Because I'm going to be gone for the next four or five days have one more pen sketch

I find I'm really enjoying drawing deer. Although looking them up on Google
I find a disturbing number of NRA/deer hunting sites...
