I think i'll call it; Tarts n' Knickers. having a difficult time with contrast, i always go too light with skin tones and such so i'll work on that a bit before i call it complete. Pen and watercolor.

oh, one more because i couldn't resist. so...funny looking. so hilarious. it reminds me of that one movie (i forget the name) that says God has a sense of humor; just look at the platypus. same goes of octopus and human genatalia.

Octopus in pen (i certainly am loving my pens recently, ain't I ? ) This is on a paper bag from the grocery store (fun way of recycling). I really love aquatic creatures; i watched a special on PBS on cuttlefish and LOVED it then got the itch to draw an octopus because they are so WEIRD looking. I think the pen turned out well, a brown paper bag actually isn't bad as a drawing medium.

Dancer Girl (can can ?) sketch in pen. will, i suppose, eventually get it in color. does she look like a red, blue , yellow, green? or purple sort of dancer. hmm, will think about it and post later.

What would you call it, the first draft? First sketch for a show in September? well, the focus will be on Victorian era corsettes (spelled right?). Gathering ideas (i like the saloon dancer idea/can can dancers of the Moulin Rouge). Pen and ink, not finished (still working on color).

Pen sketch of woman's head.

Thursday, July 02, 2009

Things have been down lately, this last class has been keeping more busy than i realized THEN the computer burns out THEN i have visiting relations so it keeps me away from the pen and ink. not that i haven't been drawing, i just haven't finished anything to put up recently so for my audience of five people i give you hilarious and weird Japanese Fashion Magazine Ads.
This is one of the funniest i've seen; an ad for the proper bathing suit for your body. the girls bemoan their small chest/flabby thighs/large stomach until Teacher Swim Swim (?) comes to show them the error of their ways and behold!! Frills to cover small boobs! a tank top to cover unsightly stomach bulge! and a high cut suit to disguise disgusting thighs! now they are ROLLING in boyfriends.
I love how the Japanese culture has absurd cute things to represent body 'defects' like Large Pores-chan and *snort* Zit-chan (the red below)

Ahhh, my feminist insticts cringe in horror to see how our own culture manages to screw up other cultures with our extreme obsession of breast size. yes, thats right you're only chance of happiness and attracting men is faking your breast size, order now!

but gosh darnnit, she's so CUTE

its surprising she doesn't poke his eyes out with those things.
One of the more...odd things i've come across in Japanese Fashion magazines; everything you ever wanted to know about... hummm... how to put this without vulgarity, everything you ever wanted to know about proper digestion techniques with an introduction by:

The king of all happy poos and Mr. Scientific Poo (right, corner)

Yup, Mr. Scientific Poo lays down the law on unhealthy habits and food

And in the end shows you the right food and excerises to keep you...er...happy. the end.
