I decided to break out my favorite part of my collection early because its finals week and, seriously, I don't have time to even do the dishes and I took these pictures last week SO: Made in Japan.
These strange little men are my favorite, FAVORITE pieces. So favorite, in fact, I'm thinking of giving them an special place beside my bed so I can gaze at them and laugh.
I'll have to read up on it more but Japan got involved in western Christmas commercialism in the 1920's and 30's but I'm thinking what Christmas is and what Christmas entails got garbled in the translation if things like THIS were made. What the hell are they? Why are their bodies pinecones and why are they playing instruments? Did they think Santa was a woodland nymph with a rotound pinecone body and pointy hat? Very odd and this is just the start; the strangest and best things I own were Made in Japan. To be continued tomorrow.
